Knox Township looks to citizens for cleanup help

The Knox Township trustees are hoping township and other local citizens will heed the call to assist helping them in a spring cleanup of township roads.

The cleanup, which is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Knoxville Volunteer Fire Station, will include participants picking up garbage along township roads and other areas of blight and litter. Safety road vests will be provided by the township, along with trash bags. Trustees also are asking all participants to wear brightly colored clothing for safety reasons, while anyone younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Trustees say the goal is to get as many volunteers as possible to help pick up litter on that day, and volunteers can pick up litter along any township roads they choose. The event is separate from the township’s annual cleanup day.

All trash bags will be tied and picked up along the roads at the end of the day, and trustees are requesting that no personal refuse be brought.

Also, hot dogs and hamburgers also will be served to those participating from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire hall. Although pre-registration is not a requirement to participate, citizens do have the opportunity to pre-register by calling any township trustee. Citizens also are free to show up at 8 a.m. Saturday and register.

In case of inclement weather the clean up will be held on April 26.

We commend the trustees for taking the initiative to spearhead this effort to help clean up the roads of Jefferson County. We also commend those citizens who understand the value of living in a blight-free area and how it contributes to the quality of life. With limited resources and man
